The fleet replenishment ship ‘Cantabria’ received the visit of the Chief of the Australian Armed Forces, General David Hurley. He was accompanied by the Chief of the Royal Australian Navy, Vice-admiral Ray Griggs. They arrived by helicopter and were welcomed by the ship’s commanding officer, Commander José Luis Nieto.
The ship was carrying out drills at sea with the Australian frigate HMAS ‘Melbourne’ in the vicinity of Jervis Bay.
During the visit they attended a briefing on the goals of the ship’s deployment in Australia and her capabilities. Subsequently, General Hurley toured the different sections of the ‘Cantabria’ and checked both, the correct performance of systems and equipment, and the training of the crew.
The visit concluded in the hangar where the Australian general signed in the Visitors’ Book and boarded the helicopter which brought him back to Sydney.
