Minehunter ‘Duero’ set sail from Cartagena (SE Spain) headed for the port of Toulon (France) to join the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group No. 2 (SNMCMG-2) until November 2020.
The farewell ceremony was presided over by the Commander of the MCM Force, Captain Miguel Cuartero Lorenzo, accompanied by members of his Staff.
During the deployment the ‘Duero’ will participate in Operation ‘Sea Guardian’, designed to enhance security in the Mediterranean Sea through a better awareness of the maritime domain.
In addition, during the deployment under the NATO’s ensign, the ‘Duero’ plans to participate in several international exercises; namely ‘OLIVES NOIRES’ in France, ‘NUSRET’ in Turkey and ‘POSEIDON’ in Bulgaria together with the rest of the SNMCMG-2 ships.
Minehunter ‘Duero’ is specialized in mine warfare. She has modern underwater vehicles and a team of divers capable of deactivating and neutralizing sea mines, a danger that could affect military and civilian vessels.
