The patrol boat ‘Arnomendi’ set sail for a new fisheries monitoring campaign in the Northwestern Cantabrian Sea.

The offshore patrol vessel (OPV) ‘Arnomendi’ set sail on October 7th from her base at La Graña Naval Station, to conduct a new surveillance and monitoring campaign in the northwestern Cantabrian sea included in the General Fisheries Surveillance Plan (PGVP in its Spanish initials) covering the Cantabrian coast and the Bay of Biscay.

The duration of this campaign will be 17 days, with a logistic port-call in Corunna between the 15 and 16 of October, returning to her home port in Ferrol by October 23rd.

During the course of this campaign, the ‘Arnomendi’ will participate as an inspection vessel assigned by Spain to the national fisheries of the NW regions of the Cantabrian Sea, and will be responsible for controlling the fisheries of demersal and pelagic species to ensure uniform and effective implementation of conservation and control measures applicable to the corresponding fisheries areas. Among the missions assigned are the verification of authorized national vessels and those from other EU Member States; and the inspection of catches and examination of the fishing gear used. To carry out these tasks, the ‘Arnomendi’ will embark two inspectors from the ‘General Secretariat of Fisheries’.
