The ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ arrives at the port of Jakarta

93rd Training Cruise – ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’

The Spanish Navy training ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ has just arrived in Jakarta after having participated in the ceremonies commemorating the 500 anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the globe, organized by local authorities and the Spanish Embassies in the Philippines and Indonesia.

During her stay in port, strict sanitary measures will be implemented to avoid COVID-19 infections resulting, in essence, in the confinement of the crew on board the ship.

After this visit, the ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ will head towards Shalala (Oman) where she is scheduled to stay between the 8th and 11th of May before crossing the Suez Canal and sailing towards Spain having completed a new circumnavigation.

The training ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ left Cadiz on September 24th for her 93rd Training Cruise, sailing around the world as one of the main milestones organized to commemorate the 5th Centenary of the first Circumnavigation of the Earth, undoubtedly the greatest feat in the history of navigation conducted by Magellan and Juan Sebastián de Elcano.

The ship's main task is to contribute to the comprehensive training of the current graduation class of 62 midshipmen, future officers of the Spanish Navy who, on this occasion, embarked on December 6 in Guayaquil (Ecuador).
