Admiral General Antonio Martorell Lacave (AJEMA) attended last week the International Seapower Symposium (September 14 – 18) held at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport (Rhode Island). Military leaders from all over world attended the Symposium with the purpose of promoting mutual understanding.
The ISS was first held in 1969 and, since then, it meets every two years to sponsor maritime cooperation at regional and world level. It is an open forum with bilateral meetings, thus becoming the most important international sea power congress.
All participating nations have a unique opportunity to meet and discuss in different seminars, favoring good diplomatic and military relations.
This Symposium covered such topics as assistance among nations in cases of natural catastrophes, participation in joint missions and operations against drug-trafficking, collaboration in submarine rescue tasks and the fight against illegal fishing and counter-piracy operations.
