Between December 12th and the 16th, the ‘LANMIS-ARMEX-BOMBEX’ exercise was carried out in western Mediterranean waters with participation of several Spanish Navy units, seeking to provide training opportunities in the planning and execution of real firings with live ammunition against surface targets.
The exercise was commanded by Rear Admiral Ignacio Céspedes Camacho, Commander of the Amphibious and Force Projection Group of the Fleet, who directed the operations from the LHD ‘Juan Carlos I’.
The targets used were the old and decommissioned boats ‘Alfa Indias’, ‘Contramaestre Sánchez Fernández’ and the ‘Contramaestre Lamadrid’, which had been at the service of the Navy for almost four decades.
During the exercise, different and varied activities were conducted to increase training in artillery and missile engagement capabilities against surface targets, with priority being given to aerial assets. Frigates ‘Blas de Lezo’, ‘Numancia’ and ‘Reina Sofía’ also carried out firing exercises with their artillery mounts.
