From April 25th to May 4th the Marine Corps’ Tercio de Armada is coordinating the bi-annual exercise MASTER BLASTER with EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) elements from the Spanish Army, Navy and Air Force, Police, Guardia Civil (Gendarmerie), Defense Staff and NATO (Unites States and Italy). On this occasion, the NBC (Nuclear, Biological & Chemical) section of the Spanish Marine Corps Amphibious Mobility Group will also participate in tasks related to the disposal of nuclear/chemical explosives.
The exercise is being carried out within MC facilities in and around the Bay of Cádiz and the ‘Sierra del Retín training range.
The purpose of the exercise is to provide the participants the opportunity to share and implement C-IED procedures (Counter Improvised Explosive Devices) and expertise.
To this end, a series of drills have been scheduled including neutralization of improvised explosive devices, conventional munitions disposal (CMD), clearing of given areas and the use of canine elements. The exercise is conducted under command of MC Lieutenant Colonel Javier Sánchez Romero del Castillo, Commander of the Tercio de Armada Amphibious Mobility Group.
