Today, King Felipe VI travelled to Rota Naval Base to attend Exercise FLOTEX-22. He was welcomed by the Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy (AJEMA), Admiral General Antonio Martorell and later they boarded a helicopter headed towards the LHD ‘Juan Carlos I’ off the Gulf of Cádiz.
On board the Spanish Navy flagship, we was briefed by the Commandant General of the Marine Corps on details of FLOTEX-22. He subsequently proceeded to see the take-off of four ‘Harrier’ STOL aircraft and then an ADEX exercise from the ship’s CIC. On the flight deck, the King was honored with 4 ‘Harrier’, 3 F-18 and 2 Eurofighters overflying the ship.
He later helicoptered to the Naval Base to attend an amphibious operation on the Chorrillo range.
At 14.30, and after a brief lunch at the Flotilla’s wardroom, His Majesty the King accompanied by AJEMA and other authorities, left Rota.
