On the morning of January 15, the Chief of Staff of the Armada (AJEMA), Admiral General Antonio Piñeiro, was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Guardia Civil (Gendarmerie). The decoration ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Directorate General of the Guardia Civil in Madrid, presided over by its Director General, Mercedes Gonzalez.
The Order of Merit of the Guardia Civil was established to reward distinguished services or meritorious actions of extraordinary importance, resulting in the prestige of the Guardia Civil Corps and the interest of the Homeland. The Grand Cross, as it is in this case, is also granted to general officers, civilian personnel, units, entities and patronages, in attention to outstanding merits and circumstances connected with the activities of the Guardia Civil or in favor of public security. This decoration underlines the collaboration and commitment of the Armed Forces, and in particular of the Armada with other State Security and Constabulary Forces.
This ceremony of recognition to Admiral General Antonio Piñeiro honors the Armada and reaffirms the close bond between both military organizations and their commitment to continue collaborating with the aim of ensuring security and defense in the maritime and land domains.
