On the morning of January 27, the LHD ‘Juan Carlos I’ embarked a 1:1 scale model of the unmanned aerial system Class III ‘SIRTAP’ developed by Airbus DS, to conduct compatibility measurements trials. They are intended to validate feasibility studies being carried out by Airbus DS for the development of a naval version of SIRTAP remotely piloted from the ‘Juan Carlos I’.
Coinciding with the deployment of the SIRTAP drone, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Navantia and Airbus DS in the framework of the collaboration between both companies to integrate the SIRTAP into Navantia’s SCOMBA combat system. The signing was attended by the Spanish Navy’s commander of the Amphibious and Fleet Projection Group (COMGRUPFLOT), Rear-Admiral Antonio González del Tánago de la Lastra and the commander of the LHD ‘Juan Carlos I’, Captain Santiago Martínez Mata.
The integration of the SIRTAP system on board the ‘Juan Carlos I’ represents an important reinforcement in the surveillance, reconnaissance and support capabilities for navy operations. This collaboration with the national industry reflects the commitment of the Spanish Navy to continue innovating and modernizing its assets, ensuring their adaptation to the operational challenges of the future.
