On May 16, the advanced multinational MCM exercise ESP MINEX-25, led by the Spanish Navy in waters of the Balearic Islands, successfully ended at the Porto Pi Naval Station.
The demanding exercise, which began on May 5, with the participation of NATO's Standing Mine Countermeasures Group No. Two (SNMCMG-2) and the European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR), deployed a total of 500 troops from different allied countries such as Belgium, the United States, France and Italy, among others.
In addition to several warships and a Navy helicopter, the submarine ‘Galerna’ and the multipurpose ship ‘Carnota’ also collaborated in the pre-exercise tasks.
It is worth underlining that this MCM Naval Force has sophisticated underwater detection systems on board, divers specialized in mine neutralization, as well as various unmanned submarine vehicles, which complement the capabilities of the Minehunters.
The authority in charge of the exercise ESP MINEX-25 was the Commander of the Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Force embarked, together with his Deployable Staff, on board the offshore patrol vessel ‘Furor’.
