The Chief of Staff of the Armada concludes his official visit to Indonesia and the ‘Indo-Pacific Sea Power Conference’ in Australia.

The Chief of Staff of the Armada (AJEMA), Admiral General Antonio Piñeiro Sánchez, has concluded his visit to the Indo-Pacific region which included Indonesia and the ‘Sea Power Conference’ held in Australia.

During his visit to Indonesia, the AJEMA met with his Indonesian counterpart and the Spanish Ambassador to Jakarta, focusing on strengthening naval cooperation between the two countries. These meetings highlighted the growing importance of the Indo-Pacific for global security, the protection of trade routes, and Spain's commitment to the region, where it has intensified its presence since 2025. Furthermore, collaborative initiatives among the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were also discussed.

Subsequently, the AJEMA attended the ‘Indo-Pacific Sea Power Conference’, a leading international biennial forum, whose theme this year was: “Strength at Sea = Security and Prosperity at Home.” This forum addressed topics such as the relation between maritime security, economy and defense; the submarine warfare and Australia’s strategic geography; and an integrated approach to maritime security.

In this context, the Chief of Staff of the Armada has held meetings with counterparts from other countries in the region, such as Australia, Indonesia, Japan, and Singapore, and from allied navies such as the United States and the United Kingdom, to coordinate actions regarding interoperability, combined operations, and technological developments, with particular emphasis on the Armada's participation in important exercises such as "Talisman Sabre" and "Malabar." These significant multinational military maneuvers are designed to strengthen cooperation and readiness of allied armed forces in the region.

He also had the opportunity to meet with the Commander of the United States Pacific Fleet, Admiral Stephen Koehler, and lent his support to the Spanish defense industry participating in the event.

With this visit, the Armada reaffirms its commitment to global maritime security, reinforcing Spain's role as a reliable and technologically advanced partner in an increasingly interconnected world. In addition, the presence of the AJEMA there contributed to strengthen the institutional and defense ties with key partners in the Indo-Pacific region, thus enhancing the visibility of our defense industry.
