The exercises, carried out in the Bay of Cadiz and the ‘Sierra del Retín’ Range, have allowed for the training of amphibious, air and electronic warfare capabilities, as part of the Fleet’s annual training cycle.

The Armada has concluded its MARFIBEX 26 amphibious maneuvers this week, an annual exercise directed by the Commander of the Amphibious and Fleet Projection Group (COMGRUPFLOT), in which naval, air, and landing units have participated.

Between March 2nd and 6th, the Amphibious Ship LPD ‘Galicia’, the F-80 frigate ‘Reina Sofía’, the Naval Beach Group (GRUPLA), the Marine Corps’ Brigade (BRD-356), as well as units from the 4th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment (RACTA-IV) and the Army's electronic warfare units REW-31 and REW-32, carried out training activities planned and conducted by the COMGRUPFLOT Staff, aimed at strengthening the readiness of the Fleet's amphibious component. These activities included the additional participation of the aircraft carrier LHD ‘Juan Carlos I’ and aerial elements from the Aircraft Flotilla and unmanned systems, such as the SEAD23.

During that week, the exercises focused on amphibious operations in high-intensity combat scenarios, integrating all the capabilities of a naval force, operating jointly with the Spanish Army.

One of the main training objectives was an amphibious landing on the beach at the ‘Sierra del Retín’ Range, where the landing force established a beachhead and then re-embarked the deployed forces and equipment, supported by reconnaissance, surveillance, and target designation assets.

To ensure the safety of the operation, the exercise included the participation of the Cadiz Diving Unit (UNBUDIZ), responsible for hydrographic surveys of the area, and the collaboration of the Armada’s Hydrographic Institute, which conducted preliminary surveys of the beaches using unmanned aerial vehicles.

The MARFIBEX maneuvers are part of the Amphibious and Force Projection Group's annual training cycle, consolidating the capabilities acquired after the ADELFIBEX certification in January and preparing the units for the advanced FLOTEX exercise, scheduled for May.

These types of exercises contribute to maintaining a high level of operational readiness while strengthening the capability to respond to crises and emergencies.
