A historic milestone that has consolidated the Armada's presence in the northernmost demanding environments of Europe.

A frigate, a highly demanding environment, and a new milestone in its operational record. The frigate 'Santa María' has deployed in the North Atlantic as part of NATO's Standing Naval Group 1 (SNMG-1) to participate in the allied exercise ‘Dynamic Mariner – JointWarrior 26’, one of the most complex maritime training scenarios on the Allied calendar.

Within the framework of these multinational maneuvers, the warship achieveda significant milestone: the first-ever crossing of the Arctic Circle, sailing at extreme latitudes to the vicinity of North Cape, the northernmost point of the European continent.

Navigation in these waters required a specific technical preparation phase to ensure the operability of the onboard systems in extreme cold conditions, validating the ship's material resistance and the ability of its crew to operate safely and effectively in harsh environments.

The naval force deployed for the exercise comprised 25 surface vessels—including frigates, destroyers, patrol boats, logistic ships, and amphibious LPD and LHD -type ships— along with 3 submarines and 3 maritime patrol aircraft, in addition to embarked aircraft.

In total, forces from twelve Allied nations participated: Spain, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Denmark, Norway, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Estonia, the United States, and Turkey, coordinating their capabilities in advanced surface warfare tactics, air defense, anti-submarine warfare, and electronic warfare.

The Norwegian fjords provided a unique operational environment that tested multinational integration and Allied interoperability at the highest level.

OPERATIONAL PROJECTION IN EXTREME CLIMATE CONDITIONS.

The deployment of the 'Santa María' to the far north of Europe has beena solid demonstration of the expeditionary capabilities of the Spanish Navy's escort vessels. Operating beyond the Arctic Circle involves facing meteorological, geographical, and logistic challenges that demand the highest performance from platforms and crews.

This milestone reinforces the crew's training in a top-tier international environment and validates the effectiveness of the ship's combat and support systems in geographical scenarios unprecedented in its operational history.

INTERNATIONAL COMMITMENT AND FORCE READINESS.

The exercise, as part of ‘Cold Response 26’, provided training opportunities in the three major warfare scenarios and electronic warfare, reaffirming the readiness of the 41stEscort Squadron units to fulfill Spain's international commitmentsand projecting a naval presence in areas of strategic interest to theAlliance.

The capability to integrate immediately into NATO Standing Naval Groupsand operate with full interoperability in high-intensity scenarios consolidates the role of these units as multi-purpose escorts serving maritime security and collective defense.
