The Armada organizes and coordinates this exercise in 15 different scenarios along the Spanish coast.
From today until April 17, the Armada is leading Exercise MARSEC-26, the main national exercise in the field of maritime security. This new edition is a key tool for joint training to improve the capability to respond to current challenges in the maritime domain.
MARSEC is an annual exercise aimed at strengthening coordination, interoperability, and mutual understanding among the various agencies with maritime responsibilities. Through the planning and execution of complex operations, different procedures and operational mechanisms are put into practice in a demanding and realistic environment.
During the exercise, 15 scenarios will be arranged along the Spanish coastline, designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the operational response in diverse situations. These include actions related to shipping control, search and rescue operations, fighting marine pollution, diving operations, managing health crises on board ships, and protecting the underwater archaeological heritage, as well as responding to illicit activities such as drug trafficking.
The exercise also includes a specific scenario focused on the surveillance and protection of underwater infrastructures, involving specialized units such as divers, minesweepers, and the underwater intervention vessel ‘Neptuno’. This type of activity is routinely integrated into training drills, contributing to strengthening surveillance and operational capabilities in the underwater environment.
The exercise is aligned with the National Maritime Security Strategy of 2024, directly addressing the risks and threats affecting maritime domains. The scenarios simulate highly complex situations requiring coordinated, effective, and sustained action from all participating agencies.
The Maritime Action Force, along with the other participating agencies and administrations, plays an essential role in the execution of the exercise, contributing to the strengthening of surveillance, control, and protection capabilities in maritime areas of national interest.
MARSEC-26 demonstrates the commitment of the Armada and all the institutions involved in maritime security, consolidating its position as a benchmark in joint training to tackle current and future challenges at sea.
