The F-100 frigate ‘Álvaro de Bazán’, flagship of the second Standing NATO Maritime Group (SNMG-2) deployed in operation ‘Ocean Shield’ against piracy off the coast of Somalia, provided support to an Iranian dhow-type fishing boat.
The Spanish Navy ship was transiting towards the port of Mascate (Oman) after a 20-day patrol in the Gulf of Aden, Somalia and the Arabian Sea when, at sunset, a call from the Maritime Service informed that an Iranian fishing boat had run out of fuel and requested assistance.
After determining the exact position of the dhow, the frigate got in contact with her captain, and the Boarding Team got ready to sail and provide the requested support; namely 120 liters of fuel, food and water.
