The frigate ‘Cristóbal Colón’ (F-105), flagship of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG-2), is currently participating in operation ‘Ocean Shield’ fighting piracy in the Indian Ocean. She welcomed the Mayor and four local leaders of the Northern Somali city of Xabo.
This visit is framed within operation ‘Ocean Shield’ intended to set up confidence building measures among the civilian population, exchange information and provide counter-piracy support.
The Mayor and other four leaders embarked and were welcomed by the commanding officer of the frigate ‘Cristóbal Colón’, Commander Enrique Núñez de Prado. Once on board, they underwent a medical checkup in the ship’s sick bay.
They later proceeded to the officers’ wardroom for a briefing and an information exchange session; the visit concluded with a tour around the ship visiting the flight deck, bridge, forecastle, hangar and main deck.
