At dawn, yesterday, several boats with migrants were located in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar. During the whole day a total of 94 small craft were detected and 920 people rescued.
The Spanish Navy patrol boat ‘Vigía’ took part in the control operation, patrolling east of the Strait and supporting the ongoing rescue operations in close cooperation with the Rescue Coordination Center (CCS in its Spanish initials) in Tarifa.
The intense traffic of small boats decreased towards the end of the day. Many immigrants were assisted by the Maritime Rescue Service and taken to reception centers ashore. Apart from the patrol boat ‘Vigía’, five other vessels took part in the operation along with a SAR helicopter and a Civil Guard boat.
