Purpose of the mission
93rd Training Cruise of the ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’.
The purpose of the 93rd Training Cruise that the 'Juan Sebastian de Elcano' is carrying out from August 2020 to July 2021 is to contribute to the overall formation (military, nautical, technical, socio-cultural, ethical-human and physical) of the new midshipmen who are scheduled to embark in Guayaquil (Ecuador). The students belong to the 423rd promotion class of the General Corps of the Spanish Navy and the 153rd promotion class of the Marine Corps.
At the same time, the State's foreign action is supported by the naval presence of the Spanish training ship in different ports, also highlighting and supporting the activities organized to commemorate the 500 anniversary of the Magellan-Elcano expedition that culminated with the first circumnavigation of the Earth.
During the next 11 months, the ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ will visit the ports of Montevideo (Uruguay), Punta Arenas (Chile), Valparaiso (Chile), Callao (Peru), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Acapulco (Mexico), Honolulu (USA), Guam (USA), Cebu (Philippines), Manila (Philippines), Tidore, Macasar and Jakarta (Indonesia); Goa (India), Salalah (Oman) and La Valetta (Malta), returning to Cadiz on July 13th, 2021.
