14th AIRCRAFT SQUADRON

The NH90 MSPT is a medium-sized, twin-engine, navalized, state-of-the-art utility helicopter. Designed by Airbus to meet NATO requirements, its configuration for the Navy includes:

• Automatic main rotor and tail section folding system.
• Strengthened landing gear for naval operations.
• Strengthened main transmission.
• Self-protection suite and defensive armament.
• Digital fly-by-wire flight system.
• Integrated helmet-mounted display (HMSD) for the pilot and advanced avionics.
• Capability to operate in adverse weather conditions, day and night.
• With a cruise speed of 140 knots, a range of 570 nautical miles, and the capability to transport troops or cargo, the NH90 MSPT is well-suited to the modern needs of carrier-based combat and joint operations.

The main mission of the 14th Squadron is the tactical transport of troops in amphibious operations and special operations forces (SOF Air Operations). In addition, the NH90 MSPT allows for:

• External and internal cargo transport.
• Personnel recovery.
• Search and rescue (SAR).
• Medical evacuation (MEDEVAC).
• Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) support missions.

The 14th Squadron was established in 2024. Its activation coincides with the commissioning of the NH90 MSPT helicopter within the framework of the joint HMF program for the modernization of the Armed Forces.

The first two NH90 MSPT helicopters were delivered to the Spanish Navy on July 24, 2025, initiating a gradual process that will culminate in 2027 with the delivery of the seven scheduled units. This Squadron will assume a key role in the transformation of the Aircraft Flotilla of the Spanish Navy.
