The ‘Isaac Peral’ is completing her final sea trials in Navantia Shipyards in Cartagena (SE Spain). Once delivered to the Spanish Navy at the end of 2023, the ship will be homeported in the Submarine Flotilla Base in Cartagena.
The ship’s main weapons are the 533 mm torpedo launching tubes which can fire missiles, torpedoes and mines.
The missiles include the ‘Sub-Harpoon Bloc II’ designed to attack surface and land targets near the coast.
The torpedo is the German-made ‘Seahake Mod. 4’ (against surface and underwater ships) with a range of up to 50 kms.
Satellite communication systems and Data Link (VHF, UHF, HF, Link 22). Short, medium and long range acoustic sensors capable of detecting, classifying, selecting and attacking surface and underwater units and shipping and mine detection. Visual, optronic (all-weather) and electromagnetic detection assets which allow the submarine to quietly and stealthily approach, attack and escape, and take part in intelligence gathering operations.
The ‘Isaac Peral’ is the first submarine of the S-80 series, designed and built in Spain. The first submarine built in Spain was in the year 1888 when the famous Navy officer and inventor Isaac Peral launched the first underwater unit in the Bay of Cadiz.
