This exhibition commemorates the 400th anniversary of several important victories by the navies and armies of Philip IV, among them the recovery of San Salvador de Bahia, which had been in the hands of the Dutch since 1624. Fadrique Alvarez de Toledo Osorio, Captain General of the Navy of the Ocean Sea, in command of a combined Spanish-Portuguese fleet, achieved this success for the Hispanic monarchy in 1625. This fact is reflected in the anonymous painting of the 17th century, protagonist of the exhibition, which is entitled Siege and enterprise of the city of El Salvador in the Bay of Todos los Santos by D. Fadrique de Toledo Osorio, and which has been the subject of a thorough historiographical research.
