The “Tambre” (M-33) is the third unit of the “Segura”-class minehunters. She was built by Bazán in Cartagena. She was launched in March 1999 and delivered to the Spanish Navy on February 18th 2000. Her sponsor was Mrs. Concepción López, wife of the Chief of the Defense Staff, Santiago Valderas.
On June 22nd 2002, the ship received her Battle Ensign in Puebla del Caramiñal from the Lady Mayor, Dolores Lago.
From January to August 2009 the ship underwent a Combat System upgrading to adapt it to future MCM threats.
The “Tambre” is the second Spanish Navy ship with that name: the first one was a “Bidasoa”-class minesweeper (DM-4), operational from 1946 until May 1973.
The ship has carried out four international deployments with NATO’s Mine Countermeasures Force (SNMCMG-2) and two further deployments with the former MCMFOURSOUTH.
At national level, the ship has participated in several maneuvers like GRUFLEX in Rota, SPANISH MINEX in the Balearic Islands and ROUTE SOURVEY in most Spanish ports.
