    The mission of this patrol boat is the surveillance and maritime security tasks off the city of Melilla, the Alborán Sea and the small islands of Spanish sovereignty in North African waters to ensure the compliance of international law. These are the main tasks of the ship: maritime surveillance, shipping control, protection of fishing boats working in the area, protection of the underwater archaeological heritage, etc.

    The ‘Isla Pinto’ is currently stationed in the historical city of Melilla located in the North of Africa. The city became part of the Crown of Castile in 1497.

    The patrol boat has a fore 12.7 mm BROWNING machine-gun and a different assortment of portable weapons for defense and security.

    This Rodman-66 light patrol boat (P-84) was built in 2023 and delivered to the Spanish Navy in June of the same year.

    The P-84 was procured by the Defense Secretariat after other older patrol vessels were decommissioned and new patrol elements were required for the city of Melilla.

    Once delivered to the Spanish Navy, the unit started a refitting and arming process in Ferrol and Cartagena.

    The patrol boat is named after a small island near Mahon in Menorca of Spanish sovereignty since 1782.
