The Spanish Navy Engineers Corps is in charge of the technical aspects of shipbuilding and sustainment issues including drafting technical guidelines for subsequent implementation, inspection of shipyards, definition and execution of maintenance works, etc. Engineers can join the Navy after a selection process.
Navy Engineers are grouped together in five main organic departments: the construction of new units is managed from the Inspection and Shipbuilding Directorate (DIC in its Spanish initials), under the command of the Logistic Support Headquarters (JAL). All issues related to Force sustainment is responsibility of the different Arsenals or Shipyards. Infrastructures are also controlled from the Logistic Support Headquarters. Branch support departments cater for the different needs and requirements of Navy arsenals.
