The new Underwater Intervention Maritime Action Vessel , or BAM-IS, the natural successor of the submarine rescue ship "Neptuno", will be the specialized and equipped platform for submarine salvage and rescue, and the Spanish Navy’s main unit to support diving operations.
The acquisition of the BAM-IS came as a need associated with S-80 submarines with the aim of providing support and ensuring crew safety from the beginning of their operational life.
In addition to having perceptibly improved the capabilities of the “Neptune” with present day equipment and technologies, the new BAM-IS will be able to carry a mini rescue submarine vessel, and to perform underwater explorations and interventions up to 3,000 meters deep with remotely operated vehicles. The BAM-IS will be prepared for:
The BAM-IS will be the first Spanish Navy ship with MOSHIP certification to operate as a mother ship for the NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS) and the US Submarine Rescue Diving and Recompression System.
