Deputy Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy

He was born in Madrid on January 18th, 1963

He entered the Naval Academy in August 1982 and graduated as Lieutenant Junior Grade in July 1987.

He served in different positions on board the following naval units: frigates ‘Numancia’ and ‘Victoria’, and the fleet oiler ‘Marqués de la Ensenada’. In addition, he was Commanding Officer of the patrol boat ‘Acevedo’, corvette ‘Cazadora’, F-100 frigate ‘Álvaro de Bazán’ and LHD ‘Juan Carlos I’.

Admiral Sanz Alisedo has participated in many international missions including operations in the Persian Gulf, former Yugoslavia, Indian Ocean, Iraq and Libya.

Ha has a Staff Diploma and has held senior positions in different Staff Divisions like Operations, Logistics and Strategic Plans. He was also Head of the Private Office of the Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy. He is fluent in English (SLP 4,4,4,4).

As Rear Admiral he was Chief of the General Services, Technical Assistance, Information and Communications’ Head Office, and the Logistics Division of the Spanish Navy Staff.

As Vice Admiral, he was Chief of the Plans Division of the Navy Staff.

In 2023 he was promoted to Admiral and appointed Chief of Personnel. On March 28th 2024 he was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy.

Admiral Gonzalo Sanz Alisedo is married and has four children.
