MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER OF THE SPANISH NAVY

Command Master Chief Petty Officer José Antonio Sendón Vázquez joined the Navy at 01.09.89 as a Sailor.

Once he completed the corresponding training at the Non Commissioned Officer Academy, on March 1, 1990, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and obtained his first assignment at the Command Headquarters of the Aircraft Fleet (FLOAN).

On July 3, 1996, he was promoted to the Rank of Sergeant (OR-6) after two year of training in the Non Commissioned Officer Academy, and was assigned to the patrol boat “R.A. FERROL”, based at Las Palmas, Canary Islands.

He has served in the following Navy units: 4th Aircraft Squadron (FLOAN), Fleet Headquarters, Aircraft Carrier “Príncipe de Asturias”, Frigate “Santa María” and the Spanish Navy Foreign Relations Office.

He also held other positions as: Royal Guard, Defence Attaché Office in the Embassy of Spain in Pretoria (South Africa), National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), UE OHQ (Northwood) as DCOM Personal Assistant, and as intelligence analyst in the Joint Special Operations Command.

During his first period assigned to the Royal Guard, he participated in the Royal Wedding formal events of their Royal Highness the Princes of Asturias celebrated on May 22, 2004 and his Majesty the King Juan Carlos I congratulated him in writing.

Between 2004 and 2008, he was serving at the Defence Attaché Office in the Embassy of Spain in Pretoria (South Africa), where he had the honour of presiding over the International Non-Commissioned Officers Association (INCOA) in Pretoria.

He has taken various courses to complete his military training like Military Statistics, Personalities Protection, Civil Guard Intelligence Service, Office Manager Supporting Staff, Advanced Leadership Course at NSO Oberammergau (Germany), the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Course and the Command Senior Enlisted Leader Course (CSEL) also in Oberammergau.

He has accredited the professional level of English (3,3,3,3) as far as NATO STANAG.

He is decorated with seven National medals two Honorific Mentions and with the European Union Security and Defence Policy medal.

On August 9, 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Command Master Chief Petty Officer (OR-9) and was assigned as CESEL of the Personnel Management Subdirectorate.

On July 1, 2026 was named Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, as CSEL of the Chief of the Navy.

He was born on July 23, 1971 in Ferrol (Spain) is married to Sonia and has a 17 years old daughter, Eva.
